chesterfieldpolice Man accused of stealing cards left for Chesterfield garbage collectors

Chesterfield, MO (KMOX)-A former trash collector is accused of driving through Chesterfield, and stealing gift cards left by residents for their trash collectors.

Police say a 43-year-old north St. Louis County man has been arrested, for stealing gift cards left in mailboxes or on trash cans for trash collectors.

Police Lt. Steve Lewis says the first reports of the thefts came in earlier this week, then this morning police received several calls from throughout the city.

Lewis says the man is a former garbage collector, who knew the generosity of people at this time of year, and took advantage of it.  He says investigators don’t know yet if he had worked along the routes where he committed the crimes.

Lewis says he got up to 50 of the cards.  He says if residents find out their collector didn’t get a card intended for them, they should call Chesterfield Police.

This is also the first year that the trash collectors left envelopes begging for gifts in the lids of empy trash cans that they had just emptied. The same with the newspaper guy and the mailman.
Hmmm maybe this Christmas tipping business has gone too far.
