ST. LOUIS, MO (KMOX)-A burglary suspect is recovering after being shot in a Dogtown restaurant by a Saint Louis Police officer.

Employees say that at about 2:55 am Sunday,  a 39-year-old man attempted to enter the restaurant  at 1515 Hampton.

They say after they told them it  was closed, he began hitting the windows with his elbows and feet.

The officer got there as the man was climbing through the broken glass.

Police say the man approached the officer with his hands in his coat and  made threatening movements and statements, The officer shot him in the thigh.

No employees were injured.

The suspect was treated and released into custody.

The officer, a 35-year-old, seven year veteran,  is on administrative leave, as is department policy.
