copper thefts Man catches copper thief in the act, shoots him

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) –  A burglar looking for valuable copper pipes instead found lead — in the form of two bullets that struck him in the leg.

It happened early Tuesday in the 4300 block of Shreve, according to St. Louis city police.

A man living temporarily in the multi-family residence heard noise coming from the basement, and upon inspection he found an intruder rummaging around for copper pipes.

Fearing for his safety the resident fired two shots, striking the 23-year-old burglar twice in the leg.

The injured man was taken by EMS to an area hospital for treatment and his condition wasn’t immediately available.

The investigation is on-going but police have not announced any charges against the resident who fired the shots.
