ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – The St. Louis Cardinals moved quickly to fill a vacancy at assistant general manager.

The team today announced the promotion of Michael Girsch to the position left empty by John Abbamondi’s departure to San Diego.

The 34-year-old Girsch has been with the Cardinals since 2006, most recently as director of baseball development.

In a separate move, the ballclub promoted 45-year-old staffer Sig Mejdal to a newly-created position of director in charge of amateur draft analysis.
