ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – The Blues Friday traded Captain Eric Brewer to the Tampa Bay Lightning, for prospect Brock Beukeboom and a third round pick in the 2011 draft.

Blues Acquire the Rights to Brock Beukeboom and a 3rd Round Draft Choice in 2011 from Tampa Bay in exchange for Eric Brewer

St. Louis Blues Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today the club has acquired the rights to unsigned draft choice Brock Beukeboom (BOO-kuh-BOOM) and a third round draft choice in 2011 from Tampa Bay in exchange for defenseman Eric Brewer.

“Eric has been tremendous to the St. Louis Blues organization and the St. Louis community,” said Armstrong.  “He and his wife Rebecca are first class people and we wish them nothing but the very best.”

Brewer, 31, was acquired by St. Louis from Edmonton prior to the 2005-06 season and played six seasons with the Blues, appearing in 332 games, registering 95 points (30 goals, 65 assists) along with 332 penalty minutes.  For his career, Brewer has skated in 736 National Hockey League (NHL) games, recording 208 points (64 goals, 144 assists) and 594 penalty minutes.

Beukeboom, 20, has dressed in 44 games for the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) this season registering eight points including a goal and seven assists to go along with 54 penalty minutes.  The 6’2, 199-pound defenseman has spent the each of the last three seasons with Sault Ste. Marie accumulating 45 points (10 goals, 35 assists) and 144 penalty minutes in 165 games.  The son of former NHL defenseman Jeff Beukeboom, Brock was originally drafted by Tampa Bay in the third round, 63rd overall, of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
