ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Convicted murderer Todd Shepard lashed out at St. Louis County prosecutor Bob McCulloch, Saturday, calling him a series of offensive names, as he was led from the courtroom back to jail.

A jury had just recommended a prison sentence of life without parole for the October 2008 slaying of University City police sergeant Michael King. County Prosecutor Bob McColloch seemed unfazed but calls Shepard a cold-blooded killer and a coward.

McCulloch said while he’s disappointed the jury did not recommend execution for Shepard, he’s content that Shepard will spend the rest of his life behind bars.

Formal sentencing is set for April 13th.  Many of the state’s murderers wind up at the maximum security Potosi prison where convicts can be closely watched.
