ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – A fifth-grader from PEGS South School will represent St. Louis at the National Spelling Bee.

Eleven-year-old Rounak Bera defeated 31 other finalists to win the St. Louis Post-Dispatch Spelling Bee championship on Saturday.

Bera spelled words like munificence, stiction, and keelhaul.

More than 60-thousand students took part in the St. Louis area competition, which began at their own schools and concluded with the finals at Maryville University.

The national finals will begin May 29th in Washington D-C.
