ST. LOUIS (KMOX) –  Describing the amount of gun crime in the city as “mind boggling”, a St. Louis Circuit Court Judge is stepping up efforts to keep gun-toting criminals off the streets.

Judge Jack Garvey is now requiring suspects to post from $30,000 to $50,000 cash bond to be released until their case is heard.

Garvey was asked what kind of impact he hopes that will make.

“I don’t know,” Garvey admitted.  “I don’t know, but what we do know is that if there is one less person who’s off the street without a gun, there’s a better chance that people will be safer in the city.”

Until now first time suspects could regain their freedom by having someone post $3,000 to $5,000 cash.

Keeping repeated offenders with guns off our street is what this City needs. There have been too many people out there with guns and are released back on the streets. I have a guy on my block who has been arrested at least three times carrying a gun along with drugs and is back on the streets before you can blink an eye. Do we have to wait until this guy kills someone? This has to be an ongoing problem for police officers who are doing a great job arresting these criminals only to see them back on the streets before the ink drys on their report. Citizens are not safe. The officers are being shot and killed more now than ever. All over the Country we are losing officers and law abiding citizens. The Honorable Judge Garvey is taking a stand for the safety of citizens and I wish other judges follow his lead. We have too many judges that are giving these criminals too many chances. Do the research and you will find that most of these local terrorists have been before a judge more than once. Thank you Judge John Garvey.

Judge Garvey is takiing a STAND??? Seriously, how nice of him to do something now…if he had done his job then US Marshal John Perry would not have been shot and killed by Carlos Boles on March 8, 2011. Where was Jack Garvey then? I will tell you..he and the circuit attorney and a host of others were on the TV station laying blame all over each other about why Boles was out on the street while I was at the hospital with John watching him die. How very nice of Judge Garvey to do something now…too bad he was not the one that walked in to arrest Boles.

Way to go Judge Garvey. Judges play an important role in any City. Hope this
    slows down the revolving door.
