WASHINGTON D.C. (KMOX) –  Last week, the Group of Eight summit asked member countries — and world bankers — to kick in $40 billion to help establish democracies in the Arab World.

KMOX News asked U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill if that means American taxpayers will end up paying for the “Arab Spring” uprisings.

“Make no mistake about it, we have an opportunity right now,” she replied.  “Democracies come up from the ground.  They do not generally develop at the point of a gun.”

McCaskill says establishing democracies in willing countries may be much cheaper in the long run, as opposed to long drawn-out campaigns like the one going on right now in Afghanistan>
