ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX)-Monsanto is confirming that hackers were able to gain access to their web sites but is denying claims the hackers crippled the company’s mail servers and stole private information.

Anonymous claims it “blasted  their (Monsanto’s) web infrastructure for two days straight, crippling all three of their mail servers as well as taking down their main web sites worldwide” and exposing over 2,500 names linked to the company.

In a statement, Monsanto Corporate Affairs Director Tom Helscher says that last month, the company did experience a disruption to its web sites which appeared to be organized by a cyber-group.

Helscher says the information the group recently published involved about 2,500 individuals “involved in the broader global agriculture industry”, only about ten percent of whom are current or former Monsanto employees.  He says the information was already publicly available.
