ST. LOUIS (KMOX) –  A group of a dozen or more south St. Louis homeowners are pushing for the Metropolitan Sewer District to take the blame for massive sewer backups during the big downpour last month.

Unlike the residents of north St. Louis who got a Mea culpa and damage payments from MSD, neighbors living along the low-lying area near the 3800 blocks of Bates and Eiler streets in south city say they got swamped by the June 26th rain and MSD is giving them the runaround.

“Well, it starts off backing up into the street and then it comes through the sewers into the basement,” explained resident Sue Froeschner.  “And I ended up with about ten feet of water in my basement.”

MSD spokesman Lance LeComb says the sewer district is evaluating the south St. Louis complaints to determine whether the homes were hit by sewer backups or overland flooding, which isn’t covered.
