ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) – Former Saint Louis University basketball coach, 72-year old Charlie Spoonhour, is back in the hospital eleven months after getting a lung transplant.

It’s been a bit of an uphill battle for Coach Spoonhour ever since he was diagnosed with what’s called idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis or a scarring or thickening of the lungs without a known cause.

Last August, he got a lung transplant at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina.

Since then, he’s been in and out of the hospital several times with complications, and now finds himself back in after developing a fever and an infection.

On Charlie’s caring bridge website, his family says they have permanently relocated to Chapel Hill because of the long rehab process.
