ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – A “favorite son” of St. Louis returns home for a free concert tonight.

Doobie Brothers alumnus Michael McDonald is one of the performers who’ll take the stage under the Gateway Arch, as part of the “History of Music in St. Louis” showcase from 6-10pm.

The St. Louis Convention and Visitors Commission put the lineup together as the kickoff celebration for the American Society of Association Executives convention.

But, the concert is not limited to convention attendees— it’s free and open to the public.

The ASAE convention is expected to draw more than 5,000 event planners to St. Louis through August 9th, with organizers hoping 1 in 5 will choose St. Louis for a future event booking of their own.

“I’ve been on and off planes all day, and step out into ‘soup’. And they are going to take me where tonight? I’m gonna sit outside for how long? Doing what?
And it’s 90 degrees and 70% humidity? And, what are they going to do to me tomorrow and the next day and the next day?
