ALTON, Il (KMOX)-The metro east is getting an infusion of state infrastructure funding that State Senator Bill Haine says will pump over $100 million into the local economy and provide thousands of private sector jobs.

According to a release from Haine’s office, the Illinois Department of Transportation has awarded contracts to re-surface I-255 from Collinsville Road to
Horseshoe Lake Road, to widen the free-flow right turn lane at the intersection of US 67 and IL 143 by the Clark Bridge in Alton, rehabilitate the Chain of Rocks Bridge
carrying I-270 over the Mississippi River, add an additional auxiliary lane and resurfacing of I-55/70 near the I-55/70/270 interchange, resurface I-143 from 0.4 mile west of IL-159 in
Edwardsville, amongst others.

In addition to those projects, major levee, bridge, and interstate highway construction is planned on IL-3 located at the crossing of I-270 over the Chain of Rocks Canal and Chain
of Rocks Levee.
According to the Illinois Department of Transportation, the resurfacing of IL 140 in Alton near Cottage Hills suffered a setback as the project received a series of bad bids. Bidding
will be re-opened this winter. The money will also pay for work on the Chain of Rocks Levee and Route 3 at I-270.
