SPRINGFIELD, Il. (KMOX)-There’s confirmation today of the first human cases of West Nile virus in Illinois, including one near Rend Lake.

A man in his 30’s became ill in July, in a case reported by the Franklin-Williamson Bi-County Health Department.

The other case was in Cook County, involving a man in his 80’s who became ill in August.

Last year, Illinois health officials reported 61 human West Nile cases, but the first report didn’t come in until August 31.
