ST. CHARLES, Mo. (AP) __ A 20-year-old motorcyclist is dead after allegedly racing past a deputy trying to stop him for a traffic violation.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says John Gomez of St. Charles died in the accident late Tuesday in St. Charles County. The patrol says a deputy was trying to stop Gomez for speeding,
but Gomez sped past the deputy and crashed. He was thrown from the motorcycle and died at the scene.
