ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) — The John Cochran VA medical center on Grand Avenue gets a positive report card — following more than a year of sporadic blunders with dirty dental equipment and unsterilized surgical instruments.
Missouri Congressman Russ Carnahan says he’s been getting on read on the facility from veterans groups.
“Veterans that we have heard from in my office are giving much better marks to the services at Cochran,” Carnahan said.
Carnahan noted that the facility is building a new sterilization unit to make sure all its instruments are properly cleaned and more training is underway.
But Carnahan was unable to answer questions about whether anyone responsible for the dirty dental equipment fiasco that touched off a wave of testing for HIV and Hepatitis C exposure had been fired.
“Rarely does someone lose their job and they tend to be reassigned somewhere else,” Carnahan said, “I think that is a valid issue for the VA nationally.”
Carnahan says he’s awaiting results of a customer satisfaction survey due out in September to find out if any more complaints need addressing.
