ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – A longtime south St. Louis alderman is challenging longtime St. Louis city treasurer Larry Williams in the August Democratic primary.

Fred Wessels announced his candidacy today.

In a press release, Wessels takes particular aim at Williams’ handling of the city’s Parking Division, which he says spends 97-percent of its revenue on administrative costs.

Wessels has been an alderman for 26 years. Williams has been city treasurer for 30 years.
