EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (KMOX) – One pedestrian is dead and a second critically-injured after being struck on the Poplar Street Bridge, early Sunday morning.

Illinois State Police report prior to the incident on the Poplar Street Bridge,  a car struck a St. Louis Police Department squad car, at which time the officer tried to stop the vehicle. However, the driver of the Mustang took off eastbound on the Poplar Street Bridge. While on the bridge, the driver struck the two pedestrians.

The male victim was knocked off the bridge deck and pronounced dead.  He is identified as 26 year old Daunte D. Simmons of St. Louis.  The female was transported to an area hospital.

The driver of the Mustang was then stopped on Route 3 in East St. Louis. Police say the driver and his passenger appeared to be intoxicated. Neither person could speak English, so an interpreter was called in.

SECURE OUR BORDERS, WHAT THE HECK ARE THESE PEOPLE GETTING PAID FOR WHEN THEY ARE NOT DOING THEIR JOB ?????????????????? Every day its something else with illegal immigrants. We should start billing and suing Mexico for all the mayhem their illegals are causing in the US. Why are we paying Mexico billions of taxpayer dollars when half of their friggin people are in the US.
