EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (KMOX) — The chancellor of Southern Illinois University’s Edwardsville campus says he is retiring next summer.

Vaughn Vandegrift made the announcement during his state-of-the-university address Wednesday.

Vandegrift has been chancellor of the school for more than seven years, having been appointed in July 2004.

Under his watch, SIUE reported that this fall’s enrollment of more than 14,200 students is the largest in its history.

The school is in the midst of a planned 250 million dollar infrastructure upgrade. Roughly $140 million of that work was completed last year.

Vandegrift says he will be leaving July 2012.
