ST. LOUIS (KMOX) –  The St. Louis-famous and perhaps someday world-famous “Rally Squirrel” made an appearance in downtown St. Louis Monday morning.

The renowned on-field interloper – or a reasonable facsimile thereof – glared out from the bars of his cage while his minions announced that money raised from the sale of Rally Squirrel T-shirts, trading cards, and hats (with faux squirrel tail attached) would raise money for Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center, which has adopted the squirrel as its spokesman.

T-shirts with a new Rally Squirrel logo are available for a $15 donation, $25 will get you a hat with a tail attached, and trading cards with interesting facts about RS (i.e. Favorite Music-Chipmunks, College-Acorn State) are being handed out for donations of any amount.

“Provided we get through the National League Championship Series, we’d love to sell more than 1,000 hats and shirts,” said Dan Buck, executive director of the Cardinal Glennon Children’s Foundation.  “If we’re able to do that plus the donations for the trading cards, Cardinal-Glennon could raise over $100,000, and we thank the Rally Squirrel for doing this on our behalf.”

Starting Tuesday, the collectibles will be available at all area Syberg’s locations, Sportsprint shops in Ferguson and O’Fallon MO, at Helen Fitzgerald’s on South Lindbergh, and at the Anheuser-Busch Tour Center.

Incidentally, the live critter on display during Monday’s press conference at Kiener Plaza was introduced as a “relative” of the one, true Rally Squirrel, who was humanely captured last week in a peanut butter-laden trap and set loose at a nature preserve in West St. Louis County.

The “Rally Squirrel”, whose on-field
appearances at Busch Stadium helped lift the St. Louis Cardinals past the
Philadelphia Phillies in the NLDS, will make another appearance Monday morning
in downtown St. Louis.

This time the rowdy rodent will be helping to raise funds for Cardinal
Glennon Children’s Medical Center, which has appointed “Rally” as their official

Hospital staff released the following statement in advance of Monday’s 9:30
event at Kiener Plaza:

“According to his agent, Rally Squirrel says, ‘I’m just nuts about the
life-saving work of SSM Cardinal Glennon.  I know many of my fans have been
touched by the work of this world-class medical center, and I don’t want to
squirrel hole all this fame.  I want my fame to stand for something
positive and my goal is to help create Cardinal victories while helping Cardinal
Glennon kids’.”

Therefore, RS will be on hand to help sell collector items such as Rally
Squirrel playing cards, T-shirts and hats – complete with squirrel tail – with
all proceeds to benefit SSM Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center.

Accompanying him will be Glennon Ambassador Lauren Lee, a Hodgkin’s Lymphoma
survivor who credits treatment at Cardinal Glennon with saving her life.

The press conference gets underway at 9:30 am Monday at Kiener Plaza.

I’m amazed, I must say. Rarely do I come across a blog that’s both equally educative and engaging, and let me tell you, you’ve hit the nail on the head. The issue is something which not enough folks are speaking intelligently about. Now i’m very happy that I came across this during my hunt for something relating to this.
