About Richard Patton

Richard Patton is director of Vision for Children at Risk (VCR). VCR provides research, facilitates policy and program development, and conducts advocacy focused on the needs of St. Louis area children, youth, and families — particularly those facing serious socio-economic risk. VCR also facilitates the St. Louis Metropolitan Children’s Agenda a collaboration that involves some 300 child-serving organizations. The goal of VCR and the Children’s Agenda is to develop a broad-based, systemic approach to addressing the needs of St. Louis area children through strategies that are data-driven, research-based, and outcome-oriented.

Prior to joining Vision for Children at Risk, Patton was a Senior Research Analyst with the Public Policy Research Centers at the University of Missouri – St. Louis for 25 years. He also has served as a research associate and lecturer at the Center for Urban Programs at St. Louis University and a research analyst at Governmental Research Institute.

Patton has provided consulting services to a wide range of agencies, businesses, and community organizations that include the St. Louis City-County Board of Freeholders, Ferguson-Florissant School District, Danforth Foundation, Home Builders Association of Metropolitan St. Louis, Civic Progress, Friends of the University City Schools, Citizens Education Task Force, Kettering Foundation, and the St. Louis County Police Department.

He has served on a variety of community boards and committees, including the City of St. Louis Mayor’s Commission on Children, Youth, and Families, boards of the Maternal, Child and Family Health Coalition, Access Academies, Foster and Adoptive Care Coalition of Greater St. Louis, Family Support Council, Cardinal Ritter High School, and Board of Adult Welfare Services for the City of St. Louis. Patton also has served as a member of the Full Service Schools Advisory Committee for the St. Louis Public Schools, St. Louis County Government Strategic Plan Task Force, ARCHS Data and Education Committees, Regional Report Card Data Collaborative, Delinquency and Youth Violence Prevention Policy Board for the City of St. Louis, and the board of Cardinal Ritter High School.
