DES PERES, Mo. (KMOX) –  Drivers in west St. Louis County may have noticed that the Dougherty Ferry entrance to Sugar Creek Park has been closed to traffic.

Des Peres city officials say the park itself is not closed, but work is now underway on the installation of a new playground.

The city of Des Peres posted this notice on its website (

“The City of Des Peres will be installing a new playground December 5, 2011 – April 7, 2012.

During this time, part of the park path will be closed due to construction.

The Dougherty Ferry entrance to the park will also be closed – please use the Des Peres Road entrance.

The restrooms and path will be available, but users will not be able to make a complete loop on pavement.

Project completion is weather dependent and we will update our website with a current schedule as needed.

Thank you for your patience while we improve your park.”

This is awesome that restoration is possible. We should keep up with areas where kids play because it can be a huge safety risk.
