COLUMBIA, Il. (KMOX)-A Ballwin, Mo. man found himself in jail, and a little embarrassed, after walking into the wrong home in Columbia, Il. and helping himself to a bowl of corn flakes.

Columbia Police Captain Jerry Paul says it happened early Saturday morning in the 1,000 block of Arizona, “He walked into the house. The dad met him in the living room. He thought he was a friend of one of his sons at first.”

Paul says Michael Scales felt so at home, he helped himself to some cereal, “I think that’s just something, like the gentleman was comfortable enough that he saw the food there and started eating it, and that led dad to believe ‘he must be one of my son’s friends’ or something along that line.”

But after a while, Paul says, the dad found out that wasn’t the case, “Dad starting quizzing his sons, his son who was downstairs and he actually called another son and then they figured out that he (Scales) was at the wrong house.”

Paul says Scales was intoxicated and thought he had walked into the home of a friend, who lives a few blocks away.

Scales is now charged with misdemeanor trespassing.

This is really hard to believe. Fortunately this intruder was non-violent and there wasn’t anyone attacked like in many other home invasions.
