NEW YORK, NY. (KMOX)-Some scary moments today for passengers on a New York to St. Louis Delta Airlines flight which had to make an emergency landing after one of its engines shut down.

Shuttle America spokesman Peter Kowalchuk tells KMOX the twin-engine Embraer 170 with 30 passengers and four crew on board, was less than a half hour out of La Guardia when it happened, “There was a noise heard in the engine and the engine started an auto shutdown. These aircraft, they are terribly sophisticated so it knew something was wrong and it started an auto shutdown and the crew, of course, made sure it did shut down as intended.”

Kowalchuk says Delta Flight 5876 landed safely at JFK. The plane has been grounded while technicians look for the cause. The passengers were put on other planes and sent on their way.
