Kirkwood, MO (KMOX)–By a vote of 4-2., the Kirkwood City Council passed a measure that opens the door for the city to purchase two vacant businesses to make way for more parking in the downtown business district.

The two buildings are located just to the east of an existing parking lot on Jefferson Ave.  With the vote, the city will now purchase the old Mel Bay Music store building and the Shannon Shop building next door.  The city then plans to tear the buildings down and construct a parking garage.

This makes me furious. Time and time again the City Council ignores the wishes of it’s citizens. I have grown up in this city and am beginning to feel that I no longer belong here.

  2. Ed Golterman says:

No, I don’t think they are planning a parking garage, now, I believe this will be added open parking. They talked about a vision of a retail/parking structure on this property at some point in time. They are picking up 40 something number of parking spots.
