BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) — A southwestern Illinois man is jailed on $500,000 bond after being accused of sexually abusing a 2-year-old boy.

St. Clair County prosecutors charged 39-year-old Joseph Knyff of Belleville on Thursday with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse with a victim younger than 13.

Belleville police officials say a young relative of the alleged victim told his parents he witnessed the suspected abuse in the past couple of weeks in Knyff’s home. The matter was reported to state child-welfare authorities.

Police are asking anyone with children who’ve had contact with Knyff to speak with those kids.

Knyff couldn’t be reached for comment Friday. Online court records don’t show whether he has an attorney. He doesn’t have a listed home telephone number.

Parents must be careful of who they entrust with their kids. If you must hire a babysitter, have your children watched in your own home and place a nanny cam or hidden camera with DVR in a room to monitor what’s going on when your not there!
