SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (IRN) – A longtime Illinois legislative leader has news for you – not all politicians in the state are crooked.

Phil Rock, who was president of the Illinois Senate from 1979 to 1993, has co-written a book which tells how he tried to do things the right way. It’s called Nobody Calls Just to Say Hello, which one of his staff members told him in reference to people either complaining about something or asking for something.

Rock says he’s upset with the image the world has of Illinois. “I got so damned mad at (former Gov. Rod) Blagojevich,” Rock said in a statement, “and I wanted the message to go out to all that Springfield was a wonderful place and as the seat of our government, it deserved better respect than it was getting, and I was going to tell them about it.”

Rock’s co-author is Ed Wojcicki, an administrator at the University of Illinois at Springfield.
