ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. (KMOX) –  Turns out it wasn’t the Christmas decorations, the weather, cell phones…or aliens.

Those were all theories, plausible or not, for a rash of garage door malfunctions plaguing Westhampton View Court near St. Peters in recent days.

“What we end up finding out…it was a landscape transformer in one of the homes,” resident Gil Ballman explained to KMOX’s Mark Reardon. “It had shorted out and was producing the same frequency as our garage door openers.”

At first, perplexed residents tried things like changing their remote batteries, but it got to the point where Chamberlain, the company that manufactured all of the garage door openers on the block, was getting ready to fly in a technician to suss out the problem.

But finally somebody had a “Eureka!” moment and figured out what was happening.

Now, Ballman says he and his neighbors are just glad to have the simple convenience of pushing a button to open and close their garage doors back.
