ST. LOUIS (KMOX) — A graduate of a local neighborhood COPS program is being credited with helping find the teenager who burglarized six homes in St. Louis’ Tower Grove South Neighborhood, over the last three weeks.

Police Captain Jerry Leyshock tells KMOX a trained citizen spotted the suspect while walking in the block where all six break-ins had occurred: the 3900 block of Potomac. “The gentleman said he decided to focus on that area after he read the talk about the break-ins, that had been emailed on the neighborhood LISTSERV,” Leyshock said. “He gave us the break that solved the case – tremendous work.”

Leyshock says the man saw the teen checking some gates. The suspect ran off, but the man notified police and officers were waiting for him when he returned. Leyshock says the 17 year old, who lives in that area, has confessed to the crimes, and charges are expected soon.

Excellent program that more neighborhoods should duplicate especially in high crime areas of the St. Louis community.
