ALTON, Il. (KMOX) – The Madison County Sheriff’s Department now confirms that the body discovered in the Alby Quarry is that of a missing Godfrey man.

36-year Charles Roe disappeared Wednesday evening, after telling family he was going to church services in Alton. Police do not know if Roe ever made it to Saint Mary’s Church.

Roe’s body was found on a ledge, about one-hundred-50-feet inside the quarry. Captain Mike Dixon tells KMOX, Roe had a fascination with the quarry and watching the big machinery.

Police do not believe foul play was involved, however, an autopsy is pending.
