JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMOX) – A week after he called a Georgetown University law student a “slut,” radio personality Rush Limbaugh is slated to be inducted into the Hall of Famous Missourians.

Speaker of the House Rep. Steve Tilley, R-Perryville, said he was “proud” to induct Limbaugh.

“He certainly is deserving of being in the Hall of Famous Missourians,” Tilley said calling Limbaugh one of the most recognized radio personalities in the country.

Rep. Jamilah Nasheed, D-St. Louis City, said she is “praying” that Tilley reverses his decision to honor Limbaugh, calling the induction a “slap in the face for all the women in Missouri.”

“He [Limbaugh] is an embarrassment not only to the Republican party, he is an embarrassment as a human being,” Nasheed said.

Limbaugh drew heavy criticism for his comments last week when he called law student Sandra Fluke a “slut” and a “prostitute” on his radio show. Limbaugh apologized days later on his website after several sponsors dropped support for his program and said his “choice of words were not the best.”

Fluke spoke in support of President Barack Obama’s birth control mandate to Congress.

“She [Fluke] wants you and me and the taxpayers to pay her to have sex,” Limbaugh said on his radio show.

House Minority Leader Rep. Mike Talboy, D-Kansas City, said Limbaugh was not a choice he would make for the Hall.

“It is offensive to women. There is a growing class of citizens upset of his [Limbaugh’s] misguided and offensive comments,” Talboy said.

Limbaugh’s appointment is not the only action Democratic women are complaining about.

Last week seven Democratic female representatives held a press conference criticizing Republican House leadership for not recognizing them during a debate about Obama’s contraception mandate. They called themselves the “silent seven” and said they were not recognized to speak against a resolution condemning the mandate.

During a press conference last week, the Democratic House members said the debate on contraception showed a “disrespectful, despicable and a blatant disregard” to women.

The Hall of Famous Missourians is located in the state Capitol rotunda. Inductees are honored with a bust paid for by funds donated at the Speaker’s annual golf tournament. The Speaker has discretion on who joins the Hall.

Senate President Pro Tem Rob Mayer, R-Dexter, did not criticize the choice of Limbaugh and said he does not make the decisions regarding the Hall.

“I know he has done well for himself,” Mayer said of Limbaugh.

Tilley said other members in the Hall had controversial views, such as Mark Twain and John Ashcroft, former Missouri governor and U.S. Attorney General.

“They probably all said things and taken positions that were controversial at the time, but when you look at what Rush has accomplished in life and in his radio career he is undoubtedly probably the most famous Missourian,” Tilley said.

Rep. Sara Lampe, D-Springfield said Limbaugh’s induction “cheapens the entire Hall.”

E. Spencer Schubert, a Kansas City sculptor, was selected to make Limbaugh’s bust. He denied comment on Limbaugh’s induction.

The most recent member of the Hall is John Jordan “Buck” O’Neil, a baseball coach in the Negro Leagues, who was inducted February 27.

Other members of the Hall include George Washington Carver, Walt Disney, Scott Joplin and Laura Ingalls Wilder. There is no date set for Limbaugh’s induction. Tilley said he also plans on inducting Dred Scott later this year.

Rush Limbaugh should be in an Infamous Hall Of Fame, his 3 day tirade was waaaay over the line. He questioned what Miss Fluke parents thought of her, I wonder what his parents would think of him. I am a 68 year old grandmother, and I am outraged about his comments and I think his hate- filled talk should be taken off the air

Rush is indefensible as is KMOX buying his syndication for too many years
& skewing attitudes across our state.
    “Where is responsible journalism amidst
_Clear Channel/Bain Capitol _ownership of “OUR AIRWAVES”.
I’m listening this a.m. with remorse; Were it not for Cardinal Broadcasts & this concern, I’d not give you a second of my listening ears.
Thank-God for Sirius/XM … Are there any enlightened Females in charge of programming? Don’t get me started on a bust of rush in jeff city = “mindless”.

Station manager, please tell us, what (if anything) exists as a “code of conduct” for talk shows on KMOX.

Mr. Limbaugh’s unnecesary insults regarding Sandra Fluke were an egegoius, demeaning, vile departure from the talk-show discourse I would expect to hear broadcast on KMOX radio.

KMOX, the radio home of St. Louis Cardinals baseball, should have much more class than to allow this program continued air time.

That does it, we are changing our vacation plans.

We will NOT be spending our money in a state that loves Rush Limbaugh!

    1. Chris says:

I love Rush and Missouri – maybe you shouldn’t visit our great state.

      1. Heinz says:

        …Let’s take a looksee at Rush’s Resume:

a.) married 4 times – no children (maybe he dosen’t know how)
b.) promotes the personel use of perscription medications with-out perscription ( a slight amount of oyxi’s beyond any medicail doctor’s authority)
c.) Degradation of private citizen’s which state their opinion.
d.) Promoting and requiring sexual activity to be broadcast over U-tube

Yep – Great attributes and judeo-christian values that we must teach all our children

I don’t blame you. After living in Missouri for 58 years and being proud to call it home, I now bow my head in shame that a bust of him was even considered. Not all Missourians aprove or support Limbaugh’s vile rantings. I find his latest denigration of a young female, just because she didn’t agree with his bought and paid for positions on social issues,.to be despicable.

  5. Heinz says:

As a long time listener of KMOX I am appalled at Mr. (I use this term lightly) Limbaugh repeated insults. KMOX – as a leader must not just provide lipservice; but ban this degrading and insulting show from their network. Maybe one should take a look at those advertisers that advertise on his show and KMOX. One can only hope that the standards of KMOX are above this level

  6. Jason says:

I’ll never go to Misspuri again. What a coward of a man Tilley is for doing this.

  7. harold says:

I have listened to KMOX for for over 50 years and never have heard such verbage as Limbaugh used. your stanards have really went down hill.Looks like you are on the level now that Jerry Springer could take the morning spot .
    Long time lisener-GONE

  8. stlmom4 says:

Certainly something we can do without — bust of Rush. Tired of hearing his rants long ago, all for ratings I suppose? Not for me.

Tilley should’ve stepped up. At the very least this was extremely ill timed. Can still regain some honor and leave the bust unmade or in some far off warehouse gathering dust.

  9. joe says:

I hope that the bust of Rush is melted down and another choice is made. My radio is usually tuned to KMOX radio with the exception of when Rush Limbaugh is on! I still find it hard to believe after all these years that KMOX stoops to his level by giving him the access to are airwaves for his divisive hatred!

  10. Chris says:

Rush deserves to be in the Hall of Fame…..he is a great person and saved AM radio.

  11. Chris says:

Too bad – I love RUSH and have listened to him for 23 years…..if you don’t like him, that’s your choice. More folks love him than don’t………and they want to make sure that they can get their nasty comments in. The sponsors who pulled out of sponsoring Rush – guess what – I won’t buy your products at all.

  12. Pat says:

Has Limbaugh saved AM radio or AM radio due to lucrative backers provided a venue for vile venom to be spurred out over the air waves? His latest vile, abusive tirade against a female student is a new low even for him. For years my radio dial was set to KMOX, but due to the poor stewardship of this station, I will only listen to determine which products and sevices I will not use and to encouraging others to do the same.
