ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – There were three proposed alternatives for bridging the I-70 divide on display at City Hall on Tuesday, although transportation department officials acknowledged that they’re only seriously considering one of them.

The old Busch Stadium was drawn on a poster board for one of the apparent lame-duck proposals.

Lush, green grass, meantime, is shown covering an entire block of the interstate between the Old Courthouse and the Archgrounds in the to-be-built alternative.

“Memorial Drive will be cut off in the northbound direction right past Walnut, and then the rest of that land there in the northbound direction will get turned back over to the parkland,” MoDOT area engineer Deanna Vanker explained.

She added that the plans should have fringe benefits near Laclede’s Landing.

“Right now we have four signals down there that are flashing, about fifty feet apart from each other, and people don’t know, with all traffic, which way is going where. It’s a very unpleasant experience. We have the ability now to clean that up.”

Most people’s concerns at yesterday’s public forum, Venker said, involved how the changes would affect daily commutes.
