VERONA, Mo. (AP) — Eighteen dogs ranging from American bulldogs to poodles have been removed from a commercial breeding facility in southwest Missouri.
The Missouri Department of Agriculture says the owner of C.E. Kennel in Verona agreed to give up the dogs and close the facility. The rescued animals were taken Monday to the Humane Society of Missouri in St. Louis.
Officials at the Humane Society say one of the dogs is blind and several appear to have eye problems and matted coats.
After treatment, the animals will be put up for adoption.
The agriculture department says it has removed more than 5,600 dogs from substandard conditions since 2009.
