ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – A Washington University student who was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis has died.

Emily Benatar was a student from California in the Arts and Sciences.  It was three weeks ago when it was discovered she had meningitis.

Chancellor Mark Wrighton issued a statement saying her family was at her bed side at Barnes Jewish Hospital when she died and he added that the Wash U flag at Brookings Hall will be lowered all this week.

Although her funeral services will be in California a memorial service for Emily Benatar  will be held at Wash U this fall.

After her diagnosis, anyone who came in close contact with her was given antibiotics and no other cases were ever diagnosed.
