UNIVERSITY CITY, Mo. (KMOX) –   Turns out a contingent of University City residents are not on board with plans for a trolley to run down the middle of the Delmar Loop — especially after learning that the city would be taking over maintenance costs for that busy road from St. Louis County.

“How much will that cost?,” wonders U. City resident Jan Scott.

“How is the (group supporting the trolley) proposing for us to pay for this, which now seems to me is out of our taxpayers’ pockets?,” Scott asked during Monday night’s city council meeting. “To me this has now crossed the line.”

In all, seven people spoke out against the trolley, basically saying ‘Not in our backyards!’.

Others expressed surpise upon learning that the trolley would run on rails, not tires.

A public hearing on the trolley is scheduled for 6 pm Wednesday night at the U. City library.
