ST. LOUIS (KMOX)- A Caseyville police officer is hospitalized in stable condition after he crashed his car into a railroad bridge pier while crashing a theft suspect in north St. Louis.
It started in Fairview Heights, where police say the chase was on for two suspects who had stolen over $1,000 in merchandise.
St. Louis police Lt. Donnel Moore says it ended up along the east outer road of Interstate 70 when the Caseyville officer chose to avoid a civilian car.
“The vehicle that he was following drove past the civilian at a high rated speed causing them to swerve into the officer,” Moore says. “The officer, again tried not to strike them, struck the bridge.”
Two suspects in a white Monte Carlo got away.
