ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – An unmarked city police car was involved in an accident in south St. Louis Friday night.

The vehicle was being driven by a homicide detective on the way to a call of an officer in need of aid call for shots fired. He turned the lights and sirens on in his cruiser, but it wasn’t loud or bright enough for a motorist exiting off I-44.

The crash happened just after 9  o’clock at Vandeventer and McCree.

The officer is hospitalized with leg and hand injuries. Roads in the area were blocked by officers with flares for about two hours, but the scene was eventually cleared with tow truck.
