CRESTWOOD, Mo. (KMOX) – The host of the KMOX Auto Show says cars are suffering during this wave of extreme heat, just like humans are.

Greg Damon is an ASE certified mechanic at Sant Automotive in Crestwood, “It’s really a tough time on a car’s cooling system. We’re seeing water pumps leaking, hoses splitting, thermostats sticking, and other things such as air-conditioning problems, too.”

Damon says cars like outdoor temperatures in the 70’s and 80’s for optimal performance.

He suggests checking coolant levels, belts, hoses, and tires to make sure they are not showing any signs of going bad.

He also says it’s not a good thing to wash cars when it’s this hot— as damage could be done to paint, wax, or other protectants on the paint.
