BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP)- Belleville police say a 7-year-old boy is one of two juveniles arrested in connection with a series of break-ins of vehicles last weekend.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the boy and a 16-year-old suspect were taken into custody Sunday after a passer-by reported hearing glass shattering and seeing two boys entering vehicles.

Police say officers who responded found items from the burglarized vehicles and a handgun.

It isn’t immediately clear which of the suspects had the gun.

The 16-year-old was taken to the juvenile detention center, and the 7-year-old boy was released to his mother pending further investigation.
