KEY WEST, Fl (KMOX)-Two Jefferson County men are accused of severely beating a man during a dispute over speeding scooters in Key West, Florida.

Key West Police Spokeswoman Alyson Crean tells KMOX that 25-year-old Phillip Compton of Crystal City and 32-year-old Timothy Godfrey were riding rented scooters on Duval Street at two o’clock the morning of August 21st, when a man in the street yelled at them to slow down, “They stopped. Another man from the sidewalk joined in to the verbal altercation. It degenerated into a physical one and the two suspects left one of the men bleeding, unconscious and barely breathing in the street.”

Crean says the victim was flown to a Miami hospital, “He was treated for multiple facial fractures. He actually had a tooth in his lung.”

He has since been released from the hospital.

Crean says Compton was arrested in Key West. Godfrey was arrested in Jefferson County. Crean says alcohol may have been a factor.
