POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. (AP) — Synthetic drugs are blamed in the death of a southeast Missouri man.

KFVS-TV reports that Charles Riels of Poplar Bluff died while in police custody in July. Butler County Coroner Jim Akers says Riels died from excited delirium syndrome brought on by the use of so-called bath salts.

Police took Riels into custody after confronting him at a convenience store.
