CHICAGO, ILL. (IRN) – A new book on the rise and fall of Rod Blagojevich has details on many of the people in his corrupt orbit.

Among them is Tony Rezko, a fund-raiser for the ex-governor who sold seats on state boards and commission in exchange for campaign contributions.

But Natasha Korecki, author of Only in Chicago: How the Rod Blagojevich Scandal Engulfed Illinois; Embroiled Barack Obama, Rahm Emanuel, and Jesse Jackson, Jr.; and Enthralled the Nation, says when it came to the U.S. Senate seat, Rezko was out of the picture.

“Rezko was convicted and was in jail in 2008, in June of 2008. These (FBI wiretap) tapes didn’t start until Oct. 22 of 2008, so Rezko had nothing to do with the major evidence which convicted Rod Blagojevich,” she said.

Rezko didn’t do anything illegal with respect to Barack Obama, but Korecki says Obama demonstrated dubious judgment by making a real estate deal with Rezko.

Korecki is a reporter for the Chicago Sun-Times who covered the trial of ex-Gov. George Ryan and both Blagojevich trials.
