MADISON COUNTY, Ill. (KMOX) –  Four people suffered what were described as “incapacitating” injuries when an 18-wheeler struck an ambulance responding to a medical emergency Monday night in Madison County.

As the Alhambra/Hamel ambulance was speeding south on I-55 at milepost 28, it attempted to make a quick turn into the exit of a rest stop.

At that point the semi struck the ambulance from behind and knocked it over.

Two people in the ambulance, 31-year-old Theodore Berg of Staunton and 61-yar-old Michele Logue of Hamel, were taken to Anderson Hospital in Maryville along with two occupants of the semi, both from Ohio.

No charges were issued in the crash, according to Illinois State Police.
