GLEN CARBON, Ill. (KMOX) — Hundreds of Glen Carbon residents are waking up without water this morning and many more are still under a boil order after a water main broke two days ago.

Workers made some progress Wednesday but are have a tough time finding the break, which is said in a wooded area in the village’s main water line.

Crews have re-routed water through other lines to restore service to part of the village.

As of Thursday morning, according to the village website, residents of Glenwood Estates, Crystal View, Somerset and Old Town west of Meridian Road have had water service restored, but are still under the boil order.

All areas south of the bike trail with the exception of Nottingham Estates, are still without water.

A lack of water has prompted the Gateway Legacy Christian Academy to cancel classes today.

The district says it’s providing ample supplies of drinking water, alternative menus for breakfast and lunch and hand sanitizer for children and employees.
