ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – What police believe is a gang feud may have led to another north St. Louis shooting. A man is in critical and unstable condition after being found shot in a car that knocked down a light pole at 20th and Prairie, the third attack in a week in the College Hill neighborhood.

That neighborhood is new to the redrawn 21st Ward and Alderman Antonio French is vowing to take his efforts, which reduced murders by 80 percent in his old neighborhoods, to his new one.

“I’ve seen it done before and we’re going to fix this problem over here,” French said. “We in the community are going to come together, meet with the police, meet as a community tomorrow at the Rec Center at 10 a.m., and try to come together as a community to solve this problem.”

The alderman spent time Friday knocking on doors, recruiting people to attend Saturday’s community meeting. He says crime cameras are one tool, but community involvement is the real answer.

“The best surveillance system in the world is neighbors looking out for neighbors,” French said.
