Last year it was the financial cliff. . .congress threatening to cut off government spending.  A dramatic last-minute deal brought the government back from the brink.

Now, there’s another financial cliff on the horizon. . .automatic budget cuts starting this Friday. . .cuts that won’t need a vote from congress.

Scott Air Force Base has a plan in place.  The base commander is telling Scott’s civilian workers that they’ll have to take one day off a week without pay for the next 22 weeks.  That would save a total of 28-million dollars to comply with the government cuts.

Scott Air Force Base is the fourth largest employer in the St. Louis area.

Air traffic controllers will feel the downsizing.

The F.A.A. says it will close towers at airports at Bethalto, Springfield and Carbondale, Illinois and at Columbia and Jefferson City, Missouri.
