WEBSTER GROVES, MO (KMOX) – A church in downtown Webster Groves will be the site of a prayer vigil for same-sex marriage Monday night.
First Congregational United Church of Christ at the corner of Lockwood and Elm is part of a coalition called Gateway ONA, Open and Affirming Congregations of the United Church of Christ. The coalition says their goal is to pray that the Supreme Court act to affirm the rights of the LGBT community.
The United Church of Christ became the first church to approve a resolution that called for equal marriage rights for couples regardless of gender. The resolution also stated that goverment should not interfere with who a person chooses to marry.
The prayer vigil, scheduled for seven o’clock, comes as the U.S. Supreme Court prepares to hear oral arguments on two cases dealing with marriage equality this week.
