The Illinois environmental agency is going to court to force a used auto parts company in Cahokia to stop starting tire fires.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency is asking the Illinois Attorney General’s Office to seek an immediate injunction.

Last Monday’s fire at Marty’s Used Car and Truck Parts in Cahokia started after salvage yard employees took apart a recreational vehicle with a cutting torch.

Burning parts spread to a pile of shredded tire wire and then spread to sheds containing around 200 tires.

Among other steps, the agency wants the company to move the material that’s been catching fire.
