CHICAGO (CBS) — A rainstorm pummeling the Chicago area has ripped open a sinkhole that swallowed three cars.
It happened Thursday around 5:00 a.m.
Chicago Police Department spokesman Mike Sullivan said one man was injured when the road he was driving on buckled beneath him and caved in. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Two other cars that fell in the sinkhole were parked along side the road.
Thursday’s storm dumped more than 5 inches of rain so far on the city. Two more inches are expected throughout the day.
